Engraved Coventry

(Coventry now.... and even further back then)

Around the mid 1800s, the method of pictorially documenting our past was to change forever. The advent of photography (meaning "drawing with light") brought an accuracy never before possible, and we no longer had to rely on the skill or imagination of the artist to record people and places.

Fortunately, the art of sketching and painting our scenes did not completely die out, but more importantly, without those many meticulously crafted engravings and drawings we wouldn't have any idea how our localities looked centuries ago. We have much to grateful for, and I'd like to use this section of Historic Coventry to take our "now and then" idea back a little further....
